BANSHEE: a play with irish stepdancing

2W/2M/1 fiddle player
As Ria and Shannon, 17-year-old rival Irish dancers, prepare for their final competitive year at the Irish Dance World Championships, the legacies of not only their own dance careers, but also those of their ancestors are on the line. They navigate the expectations of their community, the edicts of their god(s), and their burgeoning feelings for one another, all the while contending with a culture that fights to keep “outsiders” out just as forcefully as it fights to keep its insides in living memory. Both a celebration and critique of Irish-American tradition, BANSHEE weaves together Celtic folklore, live music, and dance, to wrestle with the monumental question of growing up: who are you going to be, and what are you willing to lose to get there? |

2W/2M/optional ensemble
Lady and Lord’s daughter, Jules, is dead, and someone must pay.
Except, in Mantua, Jules is alive. (Probably. Sometimes she’s not sure.) Her husband Ro, haunted by kills, isn’t sure he deserves to be alive. Also the earth is heating up and we’re all gonna fucking die anyways so is love enough when you aren’t sure that love exists? A Romeo & Juliet adaptation-of-sorts, WHEN SHE WENT TO MANTUA tackles the ways we grapple with the ghosts of our past -- before time runs out. |
